ASU Newman Center Alumni, Parents & Community Members

The Newman Center and Newman Club at ASU have a long pedigree stretching back to the earliest days of ASU’s existence. The Newman Club was first established in 1932 (when ASU was still the “Arizona State Teachers College”) to nourish the faith of the college’s first Catholic students. We are still going strong almost a century later, thanks in large part to the broad support of our alumni, parents and community members over multiple generations. Today more than ever, our supporters are an integral part of our ongoing mission to ASU. Even as buildings and personnel inevitably change, what doesn’t change is that you are forever a part of our family and your life has been marked by your time here. We would love for you to visit – for Mass, for our many events we have for you this year, or just to look around- especially at our beautiful chapel! Please find one of our priests and share your story!

Events

Homecoming

ASU’s homecoming this year will be held the week of November 9th-15th. The Newman Center joins in the festivities welcoming our Newman alumni with open doors, scrumptious food and (most importantly) a bathroom break! Come hear the bell of the old brick chapel ring out as the homecoming parade makes its way right by our campus. Our clergy, staff and present students are all on hand and we would love to meet you! Join us Saturday November 15th on the Newman Lawn!

Annual Pilgrimage

Each year the Newman Center invites alumni on a pilgrimage to grow together in faith and friendship. Most recently we took 25 pilgrims on a day trip to Tucson to explore the roots of our Catholic faith here in Arizona. This year, on July 23rd-27th, we will be traveling to Guadalupe in Mexico!

Family Brunch

Looking for the perfect family weekend breakfast? Look no further than our very own Newman Center! After each of the morning Masses join us for a delicious breakfast and see what your kids have been up to at ASU Catholic! We can’t wait to see you all on October 26th after the 9:30AM and 11:00AM Masses! Price is $10 a head to attend, CLICK HERE to sign up!

Still the One

All married Newman Center couples! We invite you for a very special event where we recognize all of your marriages! Whether you are newly wed or have spent many loving years together, all are welcome for this special evening. Come for the 4PM Vigil Mass to renew your marital vows with your spouse where we will then have a dinner and cocktail reception to follow as well as entertainment for the night! Join us on Saturday February 28th!

Baccalaureate

As the academic year draws to a close, we recognize our hard working students who have come through Newman as they go off into the world. Celebrate with us on May 10th as we send off our graduating seniors. Mass will be at 6:00PM with a reception to follow!

Lessons and Carols

Get into the spirit of the Advent season on December 3rd at 6:15PM where our student choir will perform various Advent hymns in our beautiful Newman Chapel. Light reception to follow! All are welcome!

Tenebrae

Every year at our Newman Center we enter deeply into the passion and death of our Lord with a tenebrae service. This beautifully symbolic time of prayer and reflection during this service will properly order our hearts on what took place on Good Friday, while also setting our gaze towards Easter Sunday.
